Description |
A PDF catalogue accompanying the exhibition “Art Post-Internet,” curated by Karen Archey and Robin Peckham for the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing during spring 2014, available online at http://post-inter.net/. In addition to an extended exhibition essay written by Archey and Peckham, the PDF comprises responses to a questionnaire on the nature of the highly contested term “post-internet.” This questionnaire is intended to preserve the widely varied opinions and oral histories of post-internet thought leaders throughout the world. The publication concludes with an endnote comprising personal reflections on the oftentimes cantankerous reception of post-internet art written by Archey. The catalogue Art Post-Internet: INFORMATION/DATA seeks to preserve discussion pertinent to its object of research as a highly contested subject, and as such belongs to the rapidly evolving category of digital-first open access publishing. The title INFORMATION/DATA plays on the definition of these two words—information being the useful product of organized data—and speaks to the editorial intention of the PDF to be inclusive of all information about post-internet art to the point of being cumbersome. |

Notes on the design: This PDF file comes pre-smeared by the greasy fingerprints of human interaction. The particular shade of grey (#7D7E7F) used for the background merges seemlessly with that of the background of Apple iBooks (version 3.2). The dimensions of the publication (768x1024px) are tailored to the iPad. The typefaces used are the latin subset of Adobe Ming and Whois mono, an open source initiated by Raphael Bastide. The PDF is distributed via the website post-inter.net from the 14th of October 2014 to the same date of 2015. Each downloaded copy of the publication has a unique pre-cover stating the faux-edition-number, ip-address of downloader, time and place of download and weather conditions at said place and time. The information is stored for future use... |
