Description

Should a wayward member be banned of a community to conserve the harmony of its practices, or is the majority of ‘good members’ enough to tolerate a few deviancies? The debate takes place within the users of a 20 years old «Peer-to-peer» software, used to exchange music tracks. Scramoutcha is that user negating the very principle of the software functionality by locking its files and demanding for «trades only», with highly set conditions. The booklet displays three online discussions from members of the Community and attempts to navigate between the positions through an essay. It also addresses this side of the Internet as a public space, where communities form and evolve. Shaped by the specificities of their technical infrastructure, those communities deal equally with appropriation and circulation issues.
