Description |
Books Scapes is a digital landscape which consists of 100 details taken from various copyright-free books hosted on Google Books. The user goes through a landscape which is half engraved and half drawn, appearing as a black and white imaginary view of a country that does not exist. While at first glance the landscape appears to be unique, it is, in fact, a meticulous collage of multiple elements of books behind it. When the user clicks on a part of the big picture, he's then redirected to the page of the original book from which the fragment is taken.

Statement |
On the Internet, we now have, just a click away, an unimaginable number of books, more than we could read in a lifetime. Books Scapes is focused on these digitized documents that present a new, potentially infinite, material. By scanning books, we also digitize images that become in turn accessible. These images, because this is really what it's all about, prove of great value in their textures, papers, layouts, illustrations... revealing by their details, the materiality of the support that contains them.
